A "Gathering of Family and Friends" for Peggy Jean Murphy will be held at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Dr. in Shreveport on August 14, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
Peggy was born on December 15, 1933 in Shreveport, LA, and she passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 12, 2021 in Shreveport.
She was a Methodist and often thought of the outdoors as her church. As a child she belonged to the Bible Memory Association and during summers attended camp as a reward for memorizing Bible verses. She strongly believed in God's Master Plan and she relied on Him for help and guidance throughout her life. She attended Fair Park High School and over her life held many jobs. She always said the hardest was being a mother to her four children and the best was being a grandmother. Keeping and playing with her two granddaughters was nothing but a delight to her. She loved to water ski and fish and took great joy in celebrating holidays with her family. In recent years, she greatly enjoyed socializing and sharing meals with her "boat" friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward "Speck" Wray Murphy; parents, Richard Stanton Moseley and Elba Moseley Turner; stepfather, Virgil Presley Turner; and sisters, Betty Pauline Norwood Ransburg and Dixie Lee Rogers.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Charlene Murphy; three sons, Jeffrey Lane Murphy (Donna), Richard Taylor Murphy (Leigh Anne) , and Darrell Wray Murphy (Jan); four grandchildren, Emily Lynn Murphy, Abigail Lane Murphy, Miles Taylor Murphy, and Hunter Stanton Murphy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Peggy asked that her final sentiments be shared here: To all of you that I leave behind on this Earth - family and nations - may God bless, keep, and guide you.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Caddo Council of Aging Meals On Wheels Program.
