Patricia Rose Messina Lewis passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, surrounded by her children. Mrs. Lewis was born in Shreveport on December 13, 1939, to Dominic Messina and Dorothy Hardee Messina Carroll who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lewis, a graduate of C. E. Byrd High School, was throughout her life a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her Lord and her family with all her heart. She created a home full of love for her husband of fifty-nine years, Richard Lewis, who preceded her in death and for her four children. Her love language was acts of service which was often demonstrated by the large meals that she created when we gathered for holiday celebrations because she knew that everyone would be looking for their favorite dish. She was known by many names and roles that she played in the lives of those around her - Mama, Mom, Moomaw, Grandma, Honey, Aunt Patsy and Ms. Pat.
She counted it a privilege and her ministry to tend to hundreds of newborns for over thirty years at Calvary Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Daycare because, “Someone needs to take care of those babies while Mom and Dad are at work.”
Her family finds comfort in the memory of the fact that she was always our number one advocate and that which she always said, “I love you to the moon and back.”
A family visitation will be held Monday, February 9, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath South Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr. in Shreveport. A "Celebration of Life Service" will be held there Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Dr. Chad Hardbarger, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Mansfield.
She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Stanton Carroll; sister, Nicki Messina Bozeman; and half-brother, Bruce Carroll.
She is survived by her son, Van Lewis; daughter, Cheryl Lewis McRae and husband, Ricky McRae; son, Robert Lewis; daughter, Christy Lewis Stevens and husband, Robert Stevens, and half-sister Donna Messina Barnard and husband, James Barnard. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
Her grandsons, Joshua McRae, Philip Lewis, Jacob McRae, and Riley Lewis will honor her as pallbearers along with Matthew Foster and Ryland Russell.
