Ottolyn Elizabeth (Ott) Harrison Murphy , 90, of Mansfield, Louisiana, passed away on November 29, 2025. Ott was born on October 23, 1935, in Oakdale, Louisiana. She was the sixth girl born to Otto Harrison and Nora Esther Land Harrison. Ott was raised in Oakdale, Louisiana, with her seven sisters. She loved telling stories of growing up in a small house with so many girls and telling stories of her amazing mother, Nora. She kept in touch almost daily with many of her sisters and then many of her nieces.
Ott graduated from Oakdale High School in 1953. She worked in Lake Charles, Louisiana for the Lake Charles American Press and then Louisiana Gas until she married Printis Earl Murphy in 1955. They had one child, Kenneth (Ken) Earl Murphy. She and Printis lived in Oakdale where Ott was a member and President of the Oakdale Garden Club. She shared many stories of her friends getting together for dinner parties and remembered in detail so many of their favorite recipes. Ott was one of many who fought hard for Oakdale to keep the boulevards on 6th Avenue.
Ott loved reading and traveling. She and Printis traveled to visit family all over the United States, often taking nieces and nephews with them. In the 1980’s, she, Printis and Ken moved to Mansfield, Louisiana, where they started a surveying business. Ott continued her love of flowers by joining the Garden Club in Mansfield and served in various leadership roles with them.
Ott is preceded in death by her husband, Printis, her parents, Otto and Nora Harrison, six sisters, Gladys Hazelton, Mildred Wilson, Ruth Heath, Laura Watson, Nora Meyers and Ruby Harrison. Ott is survived by her son, Kenneth Earl Murphy, grandson, Daniel Harrison Murphy, granddaughter, Hayley Peterson Murphy, great grandson, Bishop Kane Murphy and one sister, Anita Harrison VanOuwerkerk. Ott also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
