A funeral service for Oscar “Melvin” Wagar, 82, will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Melvin was born on May 17, 1943, to T. B. Wagar and Vacie Burks in Benton, Louisiana, and passed away on December 30, 2025, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
Melvin owned and operated Wagar’s Air and Hydraulics for more than 40 years, dedicating his life to the work he loved and the customers who depended on him. His remarkable mechanical skills, problem‑solving mind, and willingness to help anyone in need made him a trusted figure in the community. Melvin had a funny, light‑hearted personality that could brighten any room, and he never met a machine he couldn’t fix or an animal he didn’t love.
Above all, Melvin cherished his family. His love for them was steady, deep, and unwavering, and he carried that devotion with him every day of his life. He was truly loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Melvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Lilley. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Jeannie Wagar; sons, Paul, Michael, and Jon Wagar; grandchildren, Tasha, Becky, Chelsea, Destiny, Heaven, Micah, Morgan, Ariel, Markous, Melynda, and Dyllon. He is also survived by numerous beautiful great-grandchildren.
Honoring Melvin as pallbearers will be David Robinson, Billy Mooney, Cody Head, Micah Wagar, Jerry Klein, and Wayne Mouser.
