A visitation will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 9891 Texas Hwy, Many, Louisiana from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Father Keith Garvin.
Oris was born on May 24, 1929 to Pat Lopez and Ruth Meshell Lopez in Shelbyville, Texas and passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024 in Many, Louisiana. She was one of 9 siblings and was one of a set of fraternal twins. As a child she attended Alliance School and enjoyed her time there.
On July 1, 1946, she married the love of her life, Richard Remedies. Over the following years, together they had 8 sons and 2 daughters. In 1971, Richard passed away with a massive heart attack at the age of 49; leaving Oris and 9 children behind. It wasn’t always easy, but she raised the children who were still living at home on her own. She would always say that although she didn’t have a lot of money, she was a millionaire because she had her kids. She taught them to love the Lord and to always pray and keep the faith.
Oris loved the Lord and was a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle, Louisiana. She was given the distinction of Gold Star mother, after the passing of her son, Ricky, in the Vietnam War, and is the oldest Gold Star mother in Sabine Parish. The only thing she loved more than LSU football was her family. She was a member of the Choctaw-Apache Tribe of Ebarb and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Oris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Remedies; parents, Pat and Ruth Lopez; son, Ricky Remedies; daughter, Sheila BeBee; 6 sisters, and 3 brothers. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie “Strut” Remedies and wife, Sue, of Zwolle, Louisiana, Tommy Remedies and wife, Sandy, of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mike Remedies and wife, Rena, of Dubberly, Louisiana, James “Chichi” Remedies and wife, Robin, of West Monroe, Louisiana, David “Roach” Remedies of Zwolle, Louisiana, Kenny John Remedies and wife, Mary, of Zwolle, Louisiana, and Rich Remedies and wife, Stephanie, of Zwolle, Louisiana; daughter, Ruth Hooker and husband, Lee, of Zwolle, Louisiana; 3 special sisters-in-law, Dorothy Harper, Mary Mouser, and Mattie B. Sepulvado; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Honoring Oris as pallbearers will be Kenneth Ebarb, Donnie “Bo” Ezernack, Buddy Laroux, Bo Leone, Chubby Meshell, and Harold Procell, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her 8 grandsons, Dustin Key, Adam Remedies, Aaron Remedies, Heath Remedies, Josh Remedies, Ronnie Remedies, Jr., Scotty Sadler, and Ricky “K-Wall” Sepulvado.
The family would like to express their thanks to The Oaks of Louisiana in Shreveport, Sabine Retirement & Rehab Center in Many, and the Hospice of Natchitoches.
