Omega Huffman Brown

Obituary for Omega Huffman Brown;

Biford Omega Huffman Brown, passed away at the age of 86 years old on Saturday October 10, 2026, six days shy of her 87th birthday, at The Columns of Germantown in Minden, Louisiana.

Omega was born on October 16, 1939, in Hico, Louisiana, to Marie Cooper Huffman and S.D. Huffman. She spent her childhood in and around the Hico and Dubach areas and graduated from Ruston High School with the class of 1957.

Omega married the love of her life, Nolen Brown, on August 15, 1958. They lived in Dubach during the first year of their marriage, a place that always held a wealth of special memories for them. In the early 1960s, Omega and Nolen moved to Minden, Louisiana, and bought a home on Claiborne Avenue. It was a home that would ultimately hold a lifetime of family memories, nestled in a neighborhood filled with young, married families who became lifelong friends.

Omega was a dedicated, full-time homemaker and a part-time employee at the Webster Parish Library for many years until her retirement in 1996. Many locals will fondly remember her working Saturdays and evenings at the Minden branch. She loved to cook and was legendary for her chicken and dressing, pies, and cakes. She absolutely adored Christmas and made that time of year special in countless ways - even keeping a Christmas tree up all year round. An accomplished seamstress, she made all her own and her children’s clothes during their early years. She was fiercely dedicated to her children, actively supporting them in everything from Scouting, band concerts, and parades to Louisi-Annes performances and motocross races. She also made sure they never missed the Summer Reading Program, sharing her own deep love for reading.

During the 1980s, Omega, Nolen, and Schelley traveled the craft circuit, creating handmade shelves and country decor to sell at flea markets and shows across Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Arkansas. For several years, they also operated a beloved highway 80 gift store called “Country Crafts and Clutter”.

One of her greatest joys came with the birth of her granddaughter, Aubrie Stahl. She and Nolen spoiled Aubrie to no end. Listening to Aubrie sing and play the guitar was a true delight for both of them. Watching Aubrie and Nolen perform together at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville was an unforgettable highlight. Nolen’s love for writing and playing music is what most people will remember about him, and Omega supported his passion in every way possible, whether traveling to Nashville for song writing meetings or going to hear other artists perform. They truly loved Nashville. Even as she battled dementia, Omega never stopped looking for or asking where Nolen was.

There is now a huge void in our lives that was once filled with music, laughter, and incredible home-cooked meals. Yet, we take comfort in knowing she is rejoicing in heaven today with the loved ones who went before her. Without a doubt, she is sitting back and listening to Nolen sing a brand-new song.

Omega was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Nolen Brown, and her son, Jeff Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Schelley Francis (Danny); granddaughter, Shelby Francis (Luc); great-granddaughter, Eleanor; daughter, Lauri Stahl (David); granddaughters, Aubrie Stahl and Natalie Morales (Mike); and great-granddaughter, Piper Morales. She is also survived by her much-loved siblings, Ruth Ellen Hanna (Norman) and Randy Huffman (Connie), alongside numerous nieces and nephews who loved her beyond measure.

The family extends a very special thank you to her sister, Ruth Ellen, for masterfully handling the complex business and administrative side of caregiving. We could never thank her enough for all she has done. “Those we love and lose are always connected by heartstrings into infinity. “

The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at The Columns of Germantown Assisted Living and Bristol Hospice for their constant, compassionate care. Her long-time med nurses and friends, Jennifer Sones and Stacey Blake Thomas. A deeply heartfelt thank you goes to Janice Layton Moore, her dedicated caregiver and friend. Janice has been an absolute Godsend to the family, and we can never thank her enough for the love and special attention she gave to Omega, including keeping her Christmas tree decorated for every single season.
