Jane was born on November 24, 1924 in Marthaville, Louisiana to Russell McGehee and Nancy Pierce McGehee and passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in Lafayette, Louisiana.

She graduated from Marthaville High School in 1941. She was married to Johnny Wyatt in 1945 until his death in 1978. Jane then married Hugh Wells until his death. She was a longtime resident of Shreveport and worked as an Executive Secretary for the City of Shreveport’s Planning Commission until her retirement in 1990. Her expertise in the kitchen was unmatched- her pralines, fudge and divinity were famous and she was extremely gracious in sharing her gift. Jane loved and adored her family and many special times were spent with them over delicious meals at her home-she was the perfect hostess.

Jane loved deeply and that love was to God, her family, her church and her friends. Many good times were shared with the “Golden Girls”- Jane, Barbara Kent, Sue Byars, Carolyn Flanagan and Martha Hicks and there are still stories we will never hear!

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Beryl Freddie McGehee Rains, Eloise McGehee Downs and Gretchen McGehee Downs Greer; brothers, Edward Russell McGehee, Nollie Kennedy McGehee and Virgil Gary McGehee. Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Frances Boudreaux, Nancy Allen and Rachel Greer Brasher and nephew, Lee McGehee.

Honoring Jane as pallbearers will be Wyn Allen, Jonathan Allen, Jared Allen, Harlan Alexander, Colin Allen and Louis Williams.
