Norma Joyce Cardwell Murphy, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026. She was born in Athens, Louisiana, to Wilbur Cardwell and Velma Penix Cardwell.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Pat Ray Cardwell; and her sister, Virginia Fay Bridges.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, A.G. Murphy; her children, Robert Gregory Murphy and daughter Rosalyn Murphy Ingram (husband Murray); her grandchildren, Murphy Bruce Stoltz (husband Justin), Kelly Bruce Miller (husband Kenny), and Lacy Murphy Knight (husband Buck), Deray Baker (husband Matt), and Dayne Ingram; and her great-grandchildren, Skyler Knight, Nevaeh Miller, Cash Stoltz, and Ethan Knight.
Norma pursued her passion for education at Louisiana Tech University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She later continued her studies at Rollin College, obtaining her master’s degree in primary education. She dedicated over 30 years to the field of education in Florida, serving as a teacher, librarian, and vice principal, and ultimately retiring as principal from one of the most prominent schools in Florida, Christa McAuliffe Elementary School. Throughout her career, she positively influenced the lives of countless children.
She loved to travel abroad with her husband and together may trips throughout their lives. She was also deeply passionate about arts and crafts and found great joy in creating handmade gifts for her friends and family.
Norma will be remembered as a caring, loyal, and compassionate friend who touched many lives with her kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 1:30 P.M. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Hurricane, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The family extends special thanks to Bristol Hospice and Lori Ellis for the loving care and compassion shown to this beautiful woman.
