A Memorial Service will be held on a pending date at First Baptist Church in Homer, LA.

Nick was born January 15, 1949, in Morgan City, LA. He entered into peaceful rest on May 29, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family. Nick was raised in Morgan City, LA and worked in the family shrimp and tugboat business until graduation. After graduating, he served in the US Navy for four years and he graduated top in his class from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. During his two tours in Vietnam, he served as a Vietnamese Language Specialist, and was honorably discharged with several medals.

Nick was involved in many professional endeavors over his lifetime. He graduated top of his class, and with honors while achieving his Associates Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology from Jackson State Community College in Jackson, TN, as well as his Bachelors Degree in Industrial Technology Engineering from Southern Illinois University. He ultimately found his true calling in teaching. He became a tenured Professor of Engineering Technology at both Jackson State Community College and West Kentucky Community College, where he also helped further develop the programs and curriculums. He also taught a Physics Class for several semesters.

His biggest joy was sharing and teaching the word of God, which he began at age 27. He loved being involved with the First Baptist Church in Homer, LA over the past 15 years. He always took great pride in teaching his Sunday school class, participating in visitations with Brother Brian Thurman, and operating the sound system.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, John Mannel and Catherine Ann Breaux Dilsaver.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Suzanne Dowden Dilsaver; daughter, Carleigh Bowland and husband Coty; son, John Marcus Dilsaver; sister, Peggy Clark; brother, Doug Dilsaver; sister-in-law, Jana Johns and husband Jerry; brother-in-law, Mike Dowden and wife, Betty; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nick’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Samuel Abshire; Butler Abshire Clinic and staff; Dr. Kevin Gallagher; Dr. Sanford Katz, and the staff at the Willis Knighton Cancer Center, including greeter Etto; Bristol Hospice Nurses, Jenna Caskey and Cindy Norment; Suzanne Harris; the entire First Baptist Church congregation; and all of our like-family friends and neighbors for all of the support, care, and compassion shown to him and his family.
