Nelda was born January 31, 1936 to Richard Hobson Rambin and Emma Lee Dill Rambin. She entered into rest on February 16, 2020 in Shreveport, LA. In memoirs she was writing to her grandchildren she shared stories of growing up in Louisiana during the Great Depression. She recalled her family always having plenty of food but it was raised, grown, slaughtered, smoked and canned by her parents, grandparents and siblings on the land where they lived.
Nelda married Ralph Laffitte November 25, 1954, and they made their home in Carmel, where they reared their three children. She was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress, and a great cook. She had a variety of jobs but she ultimately retired from Community Bank of Louisiana with more than 25 years as a loan officer.
Her five grandchildren, her Honey Buns, were the loves of her life and "Nanny" faithfully followed them in their sports and other school and community activities. She was also an avid LSU fan proudly displaying her LSU flag for all to enjoy.
Nelda is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, her parents, brother, Richard "Sonny" Rambin and one infant sister. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ralph Laffitte, Jr. and wife Nancy, daughters, Melissa Kim Johnson and husband Greg, and Carol Junkin and husband Willie; grandchildren, Dan Laffitte and his wife Stephanie, Zack Laffitte and wife Kristi, Colby Johnson, Will Junkin and wife Misty and Anna Hawkins and husband Chris. In addition she was blessed with ten great-grandchildren. Step granddaughters Kathy Terry, Kelly Young, and Kasey McAllen.
Honoring Nelda as pallbearers will be grandsons Dan Laffitte, Zack Laffitte, Colby Johnson, Will Junkin, son-in-law Greg Johnson, B.D. Dorroh and Lester Simpson. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Dill and Winston Landry.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to either St. Joseph Catholic Church or The Rock Chapel, P.O. Box 760, Mansfield, LA 71052.
The family would like to acknowledge with special thanks Dr. Alan Borne for the wonderful, compassionate care with which he treated Nelda during her illnesses.
