Arcadia -Funeral services will be held for Nelda Jean Driskill Johnson, age 88, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Mt. Mariah Methodist Church. Rev. Perry Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Mariah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 on Friday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Nelda was born, July 30, 1930 to Harlton Guyon and Flaura Bell Doss Driskill in Simsboro, LA. She married Bob Johnson on March 3, 1950. Nelda passed away in Arcadia on April 28, 2019. Nelda graduated from Arcadia High School. She was voted "Most likely to have a major contribution to the world". She succeeded in accomplishing this goal by graduating from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA with a Bachelor Degree in Science Home Economics and Steven F. Austin, Nacogdoches, TX with a Master's of Education. She taught students from elementary to high school levels, also special education, college, and even became Director of one of the first Montessori Schools in Houston, TX. Nelda was an avid reader of biographies and enjoyed sewing and fishing. Her family and friends were very important to her. She thoroughly enjoyed playing dominoes, making play-doh, eating Blue Bell Ice Cream, and fishing with her grandchildren. Her house was always open to those in need. Nelda was a very unique, caring, and loving person.
Nelda is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugal "Bob" Johnson, brother Joe Guyon Driskill, and by son-in-law Tommy Bunting.
She is survived by her children Patricia Ann Bunting, Sherry Gayle Regnier and husband Ted, Susan Lynn Kerr and husband Rick, Mark Alan Johnson and wife Toncie, Kenneth Norman Johnson and wife Sherri, and Keith Brian Johnson and wife Patti, by 22 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, siblings Melba Dean McGowan, Omar Harlton Driskill, Tony Marshall Driskill, and Kenneth Dan "Danny" Driskill, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
