A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Harmony Cemetery in Haskell, Saline County, Arkansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Tommy Patton.

Nan Carolyn Harwell Stout was born to B.T. “Jack” and Madge Harwell on February 27, 1945, in Haskell, Arkansas. She graduated from Harmony Grove High School in 1963, then went on to attend Southern Arkansas University, and later in life completed her degree in Business Administration.

Nan was a well-known caretaker. She was dedicated to being the best mother and homemaker to her family but also held various administrative jobs. After 10 years of service at Willis Knighton Bossier as a switchboard operator, she retired in 2007.

Nan accepted Jesus to be her Lord and Savior as a teenager and lived her life in service. She loved the Lord and loved being around people who love the Lord. As a member of Cypress Baptist Church, she treasured her Senior Adult Sunday School class. Her faith, family, and friends inspired the joy she found in life.

Nan could be best described as genuine, encouraging, kind, hospitable, adventurous, and faithful with a sense of humor. With family as one of her top priorities, she was always present to support her children and grandchildren in their activities.

Her nurturing spirit was felt in everything she did, including her hobbies. She was a gifted southern cook, famous for her Sunday dinners, chocolate pies, and lemon-blueberry pound cake. Her gardens were a testament to her love on full display - creating beautiful landscapes and tending to each with delicate care. An avid supporter of the LSU Tigers and the Astros, she spent lots of time keeping stats on football and baseball games and learning the history of the players. Her home was a shrine of family portraits, souvenirs from her travels, LSU memorabilia, and many fleur-de-lis.

During her retirement, she enjoyed fellowship in the Cypress Area Garden Club, her Pokeno group, Willis Knighton lunch group, and her NorthPark Drive neighbors. She spent her days traveling with friends, enjoying life’s simple pleasures, and spending time with her family. She filled endless photo albums with memories from her Cypress Church trips, spent hours fishing for bream no matter how hot the weather, was always happy to accompany Jon to Arkansas to take in the mountain and lake views she knew growing up, and always looked forward to her yearly Destin trip with Karen.

In her final years, living just footsteps from Karen and Jack, she was surrounded by the love and support of her family and caretakers. Our family will forever be grateful to her wonderfully compassionate nurse, Christy Graham, and her dependable and faithful caregiver, Rosalind Brown. They provided a sense of comfort and support when it was needed most.

As her time on Earth drew to a close, her children were able to be at her side and usher her into eternity as the Lord called her home. With great sadness, she will be missed, but our family finds comfort in knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven.

Nan was preceded in death by her parents, B.T. “Jack” and Madge Harwell; special aunt, Hazel Paulman; infant sister, Ollie Jacqueline Harwell, and mother-in-law, Holvis Stout. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jon Stout, daughter, Karen James, and husband, Jack; grandchildren, Kade Aucoin and wife, Becca, Kady Aucoin Wilson, and husband, Scott, B.J. James and wife, Cathy, and Nikki Adams and husband, Bubba; great-grandchildren, Hayes Aucoin, Dawson Adams (Abby Lahay), Randy Adams, Jr., Tyler James, Tessie James, and Kinlee Adams; brother, Tom Harwell, and wife, Judy.

Honoring Nan as pallbearers will be Jon Stout, Kade Aucoin, B.J. James, Bubba Adams, Randy Adams, Jr., and Scott Wilson.
