HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Myrna Shackelford Tharp, age 73, at Calvary Baptist Church in Homer, LA, on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., and was officiated by Rev. Steve Beard. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family received friends at the church on Saturday, from 11-1, prior to the service. Mrs. Tharp was born on February 6, 1947, in Minden, LA, to Boyce and Otha Milner Shackelford. She entered into rest on Thursday, December 17, 2020, in Homer, LA. Mrs. Tharp was raised in the Homer Oil Field and graduated from Homer High School where she was a majorette. She attended LSU of Shreveport where she graduated as a paralegal. Mrs. Tharp was employed by several law firms throughout her career as a paralegal before she retired. She enjoyed playing the piano, going to motorcycle rallies, horseback riding, camping, and water skiing. Mrs. Tharp never met a stranger as she made friends no matter where she travled. Making memories with her family was one of her favorite thing to do as her family grew. Mrs. Tharp was a faithful servant of the Lord who she loved with all her heart. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Mrs. Tharp was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harry Glen Shackelford; and son, Ashley Benefield. She is survived by her loving husband of over 47 years, Joe W. Tharp; step-son, John Ross of Monticello, AR; two grandchildren, Deseriea Vance and husband Tylor of Winchester, AR, and William Lane Ross of Monticello, AR; two great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were James Colvin, James Mulina, Craig Lowe, Cody Knithton, Johnathan Dison, and Jason Powell.
