Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mittie Jacqueline Hickman Andrews, age 94, at Weldon Baptist Church, 15059 Hwy 2 Alt, near Bernice, LA, on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., and Rev. Robert Davis, officiated. Interment followed at Weldon Cemetery near Bernice, LA. Visitation was heal at the church from 9-10 a.m., prior to the service.
Mittie was born November 28, 1929, in Rodessa, LA, to Otha D. and Julia Smith Hickman. She entered into rest on May 19, 2024, in Homer, LA. Mittie was a wonderful cook and seamstress making all her daughters clothes, even Nan’s wedding dress. She enjoyed China painting and had created many beautiful pieces that family received as gifts. Crafts was a favorite pass time with herself, her mother and sister. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Historical Romances and Mysteries. Mittie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.W. Andrews; sister, Billie Smith; three brothers, O.D. “Bud” Hickman, William Gary Hickman, and Morris Grady Hickman.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Andrews and wife Marjorie of Benton, KY; two daughters, Marie “Nan” Stephens and husband David of Bernice, LA and Genieve “Gennie” Ashy and husband Danny of Pineville, LA; six grandchildren, Kaycee York and husband Brian, Jacqueline Woolfolk and husband Ryan, Russell Stephens and wife Amber, Amanda Warden and husband Steve, Kimberly Ashy and Andrew Ashy; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mittie’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Butler, Dr. Abshire and their staff, as well as her caregiver Marcia Pitts, for the care and compassion shown her during her final days.
Pallbearers were Mike Smith, Aaron Groome, Bill Hickman, Steve Warden, Matt Warden, and Ben Warden.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jerry Andrews, Russell Stephens, and Andrew Caleb Ashy.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mittie, her family suggests memorials be made to Weldon Cemetery Fund.
