Miriam Enette Lee Jones, 85, passed away on Thursday December 13, 2018. She was the daughter of Etta Magnolia Dean and Aubrey Delton Lee. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Stanley Leon Jones (December 1983), a retired Captain on Shreveport Fire Department.
A native of rural Louisiana, Miriam graduated from Choudrant High School and The Spencer-Draughton Business School in Baton Rouge. She was a high school basketball player and voted most studious. Miriam worked for over 30 years in the insurance industry before her retirement. She was actively involved in the Fraternal Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile and was a past Queen. Miriam was a former member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Bossier City LA. She loved flowers and working in her yard.
Granny, as she was affectionately known by family, was famous for her homemade Southern Pecan Pies. Her nickname coined from friends was Mickey. She lived for 23 years in Shreveport, before moving to Haughton, La where she resided for 41 years. She had an enormous passion for collecting teddy bears plus all types of Beanie Babies for years. Her faithful companion as a widow was a Teacup apricot colored poodle named Angel. She was very tech savvy on her laptop and cell phone up until a few months ago.
Miriam moved to Mt Pleasant, SC in April 2016 and had been under Embrace Hospice care since March.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Jones Winslow(Doug), of Mt Pleasant, SC; son, Jeffrey Alan Jones(Debbie) of Bossier City LA; grandchildren, Lindsay Hewitt(Matt) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Ashley McAnulty(Grant) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Carson P. Winslow of Atlanta, GA, Melissa Kinney(Matt) of Haughton LA, Christopher Boardman(Mary) of Broken Bow, OK., Alexis Holley(Brandon) of Natchitoches, LA, Chance Jones of Plain Dealing, LA; nine great grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Rose-Neath Chapel in Bossier City, followed with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at the Simsboro Cemetery, Simsboro, LA where she will be perpetually placed alongside her husband and mother.
