SHREVEPORT, LA- Milton Howard "Pete" Anders passed away at 11 p.m. July 28, 2018, at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 88. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, in the Memorial Chapel at Broadmoor Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Williams officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. in the Parlor at Broadmoor Baptist Church. The graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Arcadia Cemetery. Born in Shreveport on April 28, 1930, Pete was the son of Nora Whitman Anders and Philip Howard Anders. He grew up in Arcadia, LA, and was a graduate of Arcadia High School 1947. In 1951, he earned his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana Tech where he also participated in numerous intramural sports and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1951-53, Pete completed his law degree at LSU in 1957. He was admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association in 1957 and the Texas Bar in 1971. He served as an oil and gas attorney with Placid, Barnwell and Mobil oil companies before joining and becoming a partner in Vinson & Elkins LLP, a 700-lawyer international firm headquartered in Houston. Pete retired in 1999 and returned to Shreveport, participating in golf and gardening and enjoying SEC football and all other sports, both collegiate and professional. He loved his family and his church and was an active member of the Tatum-Lindinger Sunday School Class at Broadmoor Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents and by Patsy Hollis Anders and Mary Alison Anders. Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Thrasher Van Hook Anders; sister, Betty Anders Jordan (Larry) of Bossier City; grandchildren Mary Katherine Jolly and Travis F. Jolly, both of Houston; and nieces and nephews Julie Jordan Woodruff (Sid) of Hendersonville, TN, Amy Jordan Holland (Dutch) of Roswell, GA, Jennifer Jordan Morgan (John) of Ruston, LA, Philip Jordan (Wendy) of Bossier City, LA, Mary Van Hook Escamilla (Joe) of Shelbyville, IN, Steve Van Hook (Brenda) of Westminster, CO, Lee Ann Van Hook Halligan (B.J.) of Arvada, CO, and Patty Van Hook of Denver, CO. Pallbearers will be Sid Woodruff, Dutch Holland, John Morgan, Philip Jordan, Marshall Stewart and Steve Van Hook. Honorary pallbearers are William Johnson, L.G. Caskey, Andy Fisher, Larry Jordan, John Turner and Dr. Seborn Woods. The family has requested that any memorials be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church Lottie Moon Offering, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105, or the charity of choice.
