Mildred Elizabeth Smith McHam was born February 14, 1925, in Homer, LA, to W.A. (Bill) and Lura Smith. She passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the age of 96 in Homer, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, S.C. McHam.
Mildred, known to many as "Sis" and later Granny, loved art. She spent many enjoyable years with her instructor and friend, June Tyler Moore. She shared many of her paintings with her family and friends.
Mildred was a long time member at First Baptist Church of Homer. Her family is thankful for Joy Hays, her Sunday School teacher and "heart" friend for many years. Mildred was very active in the Shawl Committee at First Baptist Church. Through the years she knitted over 200 shawls. She loved to go out and visit with the people to whom they were delivering a shawl. It always seemed to brighten her day.
Granny, as some called her, and which delighted her, had a list of people she would pray for daily. Her prayer list became more important to her in her latter years. She took it as an honor to have someone call and ask her to put a name on her prayer list.
We want to extend a special thank you to all those at Claiborne Rehab who cared for our mother Mildred and a special thank you to Dr. Scott Haynes for his loving care.
Mildred had a very active and enjoyable life. She is survived by one son, Chris and his wife Linda, and one grandson, Greg McHam, all of Homer, and one sister, Patsy Winterrowd, of Pasadena, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.
