LOGANSPORT, LA - Funeral services honoring the life of Mildred Jo Ashton Magness, 94, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Logansport, LA. Rev. Charles Hall and Rev. Shawn Thrapp will be officiating, the burial will follow at the O. E. Price Cemetery in Logansport.
Friends may visit from 6 pm until 8 pm, Thursday, August 16th at the Rose-Neath Chapel in Logansport.
Mildred Jo Ashton Magness was born in Logansport, Louisiana on October 28, 1923. The youngest of four children, Mildred was raised in Desoto parish and is a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Logansport. After graduation from high school, she worked as a book keeper for the Haslam, TX, Lumber Company. Mildred worked at several businesses as office manager and chief book keeper with her final employment at the Shelby-Panola Savings and Loan in Carthage, TX. She retired in 1988.
Mildred married Murry F. Magness in 1946. They enjoyed traveling and especially staying at their lake house on Toledo Bend Lake where they spent many hours fishing for bream and crappie. They were married for 45 years before he passed away in April of 1991.
Mildred moved to Shreveport and lived there until 2013 when she moved to the Azalea estates in Gonzales to be near her son and daughter-in-law Murry and Eve Magness, Jr. Mildred enjoys watching football and her two favorite teams are the LSU Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys.
Mildred is survived by her son Murry F. Magness Jr. and his wife Eve. She is also survived by a large group of nieces and nephews from both the Ashton and Magness sides of the families.
Honoring the life of Mildred as pallbearers will be Scott Elliott, Caleb Elliott, Richard Land, Andrew Elliott, Timothy Elliott, and Don Alexander.
