He later joined the Shreveport Police Department and served over twenty years in law enforcement. His sons, Shane and Lane, were raised with values of honesty, a strong work ethic and a passion to pursue their goals by the example of their dad, who loved God and adored their mother. Mike was a gifted musician with a passion for the guitar. Over the years, he played with several local bands in the community.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jackie Smith and two sons, Shane and his wife Misty of Shreveport and Lane of Shreveport; two grandchildren, Logan and Addison. He is also survived by his uncle, Tommy Butcher of Coushatta, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
