His was a life of service starting in the US Air Force, and later as a leader in youth ministry after accepting Jesus as his personal savior when two youth witnessed to him in 1972. His love and commitment to youth ministry extended into teaching 10th grade boys for numerous years at Calvary Shreveport. He served in many capacities throughout his life including as a board member for Cedar Hills Retirement Community and as an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years. In recent years, his passion and time was given in serving as a local and state Commander for the Disabled American Veterans raising awareness and funds to provide needed services to those who have sacrificed serving our country.
In addition to a life of service, Mike was known for his dry wit and his love of his wife and family. Michael met and married Sarah Elizabeth (Foley) McTiernan, in Rockport, Texas, and was married for 61 years. They were blessed with three children, who in turn blessed them with 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. This family unit was a source of joy and pride for him throughout his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Krenz; and sisters, Patricia Kuehl and Kitty Sobrilsky. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; children, Rae Quezada (Duke), Patrick McTiernan (Kelly), and Elizabeth McTiernan Cole; greatly loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
