Michael Wayne Berry

Services celebrating the life of Michael (Mike) Wayne Berry, 82, will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport, LA on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Larry Williams will be officiating the service with interment to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA .

Mike was born to loving parents, Thomas Osborne Berry, Sr. of Helena, Arkansas and Alma Jo (Benjamin) Berry of Texarkana, Texas on November 12,1943. He was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and the eldest of three sons.

Mike graduated from CE Byrd High School in 1961. He attended Centenary College as an engineering major and proudly continued his father’s legacy of serving in the US Air Force followed by service in the United States Marine Corps. Mike was stationed at Camp Le Jeune in North Carolina as an active duty member of the USMC and completed his time in the United States Reserves.

Mike had a long and successful career at IBM in Shreveport where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service.

After retirement, Mike filled his time with family and his favorite hobbies of restoring old clocks and flying remote control helicopters. He was an avid coin collector, loved to strum the electric and acoustic guitars, but some days you might find him at the gun range dialing in his scope for target practice living life to the fullest! 

Mike’s intelligence gifted him as a pioneer in the early age of computers. Whether he was constructing his own computer or gaming with his family members, Mike always enjoyed the latest in gaming and tech gadgets.

In his later years, Mike spent the best of times with his brother Steve competing together with their bowling teams. Here they gained the nicknames “Elderberry” and “Youngerberry” aka “the berryboys.” Mike began as a young boy bowling for fun, but over the years he and his brother Steve earned the respect of their league throwing near perfect scores in tournaments bowling around the Ark-La-Tex. Often reported in the Sports Column of the Shreveport Times, Mike led the league with his near perfect scores including two perfect games and many tournament championships. At the age of 82, he could bowl with the best, remained active and enjoyed life through his last days.

Mike, affectionately known as “Uncle Mike,” never married but loved and enjoyed his nephew, Chris Berry of Shreveport and his great-niece and great-nephews of Shreveport , Hannah Berry Odom and William Berry, both graduates of CE Byrd High School and Abrahm Berry, presently a sophomore at CE Byrd High School.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Osborne Berry, Sr. and Alma Jo Benjamin Berry; and brother, Thomas O. Berry, Jr. of Elysian Fields, TX. Mike is survived by his brother, Stephen L. Berry; nephew, Christopher S. Berry and wife, Heather of Shreveport, LA; great-niece, Hannah Odom and Jacob of Birmingham, AL; great-nephews, William Berry and Abrahm Berry of Shreveport, LA.

Honoring Mike as pallbearers will be Chris Berry, William Berry, Abrahm Berry, Danny Curtis, Cliff Barnes and Lance Larocca.

Mike left us with many wonderful memories that we will forever hold dear to our heart.
