HOMER, LA: A memorial service was held for Mr. Melvin Tatar Compton, age 67, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA, on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 12:00 p.m., with Dr. Byron Longino, officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, prior to the service.
Mr. Compton was born on July 9, 1952, in Pasadena, TX, to Melvin E. and Alice J. Lott Compton. He entered into rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in Shreveport, LA. Mr. Compton served his country in the National Guard. He worked for Petersons Contractors as a truck driver for many years. Mr. Compton worked for the LA Wildlife Rehab where he nurtured squirrels back to health to release back into the wild.
Mr. Compton was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Michael Compton and wife Jennifer of Haughton, LA; a sister, Karen Temple of Minden, LA; three grandchildren, Dash, Jillian, and Shane Michael; a nephew, Alan Temple and wife Candace of Grand Chenier, LA; ex-wife, Debi Compton and friends.
The family would like to say a special "Thank You," to the doctors and staff of Lifecare North for the excellent care and compassion shown to Mr. Compton in his time of need and all the friends who helped meet his needs.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Compton, his family suggests memorials be made to Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, 5476 Grand Chenier Hwy, Grand Chenier, LA, 70643.
