A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Max Olin Sasser, 88, on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be Chaplain Steve Hall. Max was born on September 29, 1933 in Leton, Louisiana to Miles Eugene and Kathleen Lee Sasser and passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 in Shreveport. After graduating high school, Max joined the Army in 1953 and served nine years, then re-enlisted in 1978 and retired in 1989 after 20 years and 22 days served. He received many medals and honors. Max was a tractor salesman and owned his own business, Sasser Construction, on Toledo Bend. He served as the Fire Chief of the Hot Wells Volunteer Fire Department in Sabine Parish after he retired. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He loved his family and was the kind of daddy every little girl should have! Max is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Melva Sasser; daughters, Stacy Strange (Doug Cox) and Vickie Colvin; three grandchildren, Madison Heard (Mark Morgan), Courtney Colvin (Anthony Devora) and Travis Colvin and wife, Eryn Colvin; great-granddaughter, Langlea Skye Morgan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at The Guest House and Christus Hospice for the excellent care, compassion and love given to Max in his time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103.
