Mavis Herring

Hosston, LA ~ Funeral services celebrating the life of Mavis Herring, age 82 will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Vivian, LA with Rev. Jessie Colston officiating. Interment will follow in the Munnerlyn Chapel Cemetery, Ida, LA. There will be a time of visitation on Friday, June 13^th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Herring was born September 28, 1931 in Plain Dealing, LA to Earl and Lula Gore Simmons and passed away on June 12, 2014 at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport after an extended illness. She had been a resident of Hosston for most of her life, was a homemaker and a member of Caddo Prairie Baptist Church.

Mrs. Herring is preceded in death by her husband, Denver Herring; parents, Earl and Lula Simmons; twin daughters, Deborah Mae and Dorothy Kay; grandson, Dennis Herring, Jr; 3 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her sons, Dennis Herring and wife, Betty of Ida, LA and Douglas Herring of Hosston, LA; daughters, Karen Pappan and husband, Larry of Hosston, LA and Donna Reynaud of Shiro, TX. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Day of Denver, CO, Linda Williams and Nancy Kirby both of Oil City, LA; brother, Charles Simmons and wife, Marge of Boscobel, WS, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Honoring Mrs. Herring, as pallbearers will be Justin Starkey, Denver Starkey, Christi Rogers, Jason Herring, Jen Herring and Nathan Kirby. Honorary pallbearer will be Jamie Williams.
