Visitation will precede from 9-10 AM. The Reverend Rickey Robertson will preside over the service and inurnment. Sylvia was born in Rattan, Louisiana, on October 22, 1921. She was the firstborn of seven children to Brad Evans and Blanche Byrd Evans. She attended school at Pisgah. She married the love of her life, Clifton Brown. She delighted in being married to a soldier and savored the army lifestyle. Together, they returned to their roots and built the home where she lived for the rest of her long life. She opened her heart and home to baby sister Rose, nephew Johnny Evans, among many others entering her door. Sylvia was the wife of a Purple Heart recipient, the daughter of a Purple Heart recipient, and a descendant of Choctaw Indian Chief Pushmataha. The Louisiana Maneuvers took place circa 1940-41 in the northern and west-central part of the state, including Rattan on family property. She enjoyed telling the story of how she was bombed with flour while collecting mail from soldiers to deliver to her grandfather's store/post office. This fueled her interest in history and family genealogy. She shared her military knowledge with army recruits at Ft. Polk and in a documentary about the Louisiana Maneuvers. She was an avid reader and loved the movies, devouring every book and movie she could get her hands on, obsessed with American war stories and classic romances. She read the Bible three times and on a regular basis. Sylvia was a wife and homemaker. She loved to prepare and eat good food and was known to have a sweet tooth. She enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, as well as tending her flowers. In her spare time, she sewed, quilted, and crocheted. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Clifton Brown, parents Brad and Blanche Evans, brother Emmanuel Evans, and sisters Elva Cascio, Annie Cascio, and Nina Arnold. She is survived by brother Herbert Evans, sister Rose Fitzgerald, and a host of nieces and nephews. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Clearwater Cemetery Fund, Attention: Ellen Baggs, 475 North Loop, Hornbeck, LA 71439.
