Mattie Roquemore White

Mattie Mae Roquemore White was born in Carthage, Texas, on September 22, 1924 and died Friday, June 14, 2024. She was the daughter of Willis Oscar Roquemore and Annie Elizabeth (Goodlett) Roquemore. 

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana. 

Mrs. White was a graduate of Carthage High School and attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, for several years. She briefly worked for United Gas in New Orleans for before transferring to the Shreveport office, where she met her husband to be, Jim Bob White, Jr. They married in 1948 and were together for nearly 70 years until his death in 2018. They were longtime members of Broadmoor Baptist Church, where she taught 4-year-olds in Sunday School. She also taught 4-year-olds in kindergarten at Barksdale AFB for a number of years.

 She enjoyed making a home for her husband and daughter and son, was an accomplished cook, making a killer gumbo, and was an excellent seamstress. 

 Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother and three sisters. She is survived by daughter, Martha Susan White and son, Stephen Mallory White and wife, Carol.  

Grandchildren include Robyn Eubank Slye and husband, Chris, Ellen Eubank, Stuart Newman and wife, Stephanie and Gordon Newman and wife, Theresa. Great-grandchildren include Rylee and Thomas Slye, Graham, Ellie, Oliver, Arabella, William, Marcus, Henry, and Marie Newman.  

The family wishes to thank the care team at The Glen, where she lived her final years, and at Lifepath Hospice for the kind and loving care they showed her. 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, 7200 Desiard Street, Monroe, LA 71203 or charity of choice.
