Sue Evans, treasured matriarch of five generations, peacefully left this Earth in the early hours of December 21, 2025, after 104 incredible, beautiful years.
Born on March 8, 1921, in De Queen, Arkansas, Sue was the middle child of seven born to James and Doni Karr. She always said her father was the greatest man she ever knew.
A loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and friend until the very end, she will be missed terribly but never forgotten.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, James and Doni Karr; her six siblings—Pernell Mead, Leroy Karr, Leola Lalena, Hazel Calhoun, Rachel Frint, and Louise Warlick; her cherished only son, Bo Evans; and two beloved grandsons, Michael and Dean Munger. Her greatest wish in the past few months was to be reunited with those who’d gone before her, especially her Papa and Bo. It brings us peace and comfort to imagine these beautiful reunions.
Those remaining here to celebrate her life and remember her legacy include two daughters, Jimmie (Tara) Munger and Kay Haley with husband Danny; four granddaughters—Jana Weed with husband Peter, Sandi Sweet, Stacy Haley, and Danica Evans; six great-grandchildren—Danny Whatley with life partner Lauren, Dalton (DJ) Watson, Jay Whatley, Dani Kay Melton with husband Riley, Harley Evans, and Brandon Ward; seven great-great-grandchildren—Bradyn and Madden Watson, River and Rose Whatley, Orion and Aurora Evans, and Charlotte Melton; along with many much-loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sue was a gifted seamstress, working for decades at the Shreveport Garment Factory downtown. She made beautiful quilts and blankets, all types of clothing, sewed on buttons, and made alterations—every single stitch perfect and exact, always, for she was a perfectionist.
If you were lucky enough to know her, you know Sue could be a spitfire, fiercely independent (until the very end), and never afraid to say what she meant. She loved her family and friends, loved her coffee (cream, no sugar), loved her Golden Girls and Everybody Loves Raymond, loved puzzles (crossword and jigsaw), loved birds, and loved sweet potato pie—her own was always the best, but she’d never say that. She never had much in the way of material possessions, but you can bet she took the very best care of everything she had. She liked the simple things in life, never anything fancy. Frugal to a fault, she wasted nothing...and saved everything.
Keeping things simple in her honor, there will be a visitation on Monday, December 29, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Rose-Neath Funeral Home South, 2500 Southside Dr. in Shreveport. On Tuesday, December 30, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. All who knew her are welcome.
In life, Sue loved and enjoyed flowers but always said bluntly their beauty was wasted at funerals. In lieu of flowers—and to acknowledge her avid love for birds—a donation in her name to The Audubon Society would be a lovely tribute to her memory.
