Mary Lovey Sparks, known as “Marcy”, a longtime resident of Shreveport, passed away Sunday August 31, 2025 near Benton, Louisiana at age 56. Visitation at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana will take place from 5-7 PM Sunday, September 7 and a funeral service will take place in the Rose-Neath chapel at 11:00 AM Monday, September 8. Burial at Zwolle cemetery, 1553 Obrie Street in Zwolle will immediately follow the service.
Born December 15, 1968 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Florence Lovey Reed and Dexter Harry Sparks, Marcy grew up in New Orleans and Shreveport. During childhood Marcy was driven to collect as many Mardi Gras beads as she could, coming home completely overloaded with paper grocery sacks full of beads. As an adult, she completed a home care assistant program and has pursued that career in recent years. Marcy had compassion toward the elderly and infirm, and she was requested by many clients. It’s likely they enjoyed their conversations with her, because she was very engaging and full of news. In Marcy’s off time, she enjoyed the occasional trip to the casinos but especially loved swimming and boating on the area lakes. She participated annually in the Floatilla on Cross Lake for fun and fundraising for various nonprofits including Shriners Children’s Shreveport.
More than anything, Marcy enjoyed keeping up with her many friends and the lives of her children and grandchildren. Even as a child Marcy loved to talk on the phone, and that stayed with her throughout her life. She called her mama several times each week and chatted for a half hour while her mother put on makeup.
Marcy is survived by “Mama” Lovey McGahan, Lovey’s husband Brad McGahan, Marcy’s partner Chad Dye, one sister Page Callie Lopaz, three daughters Kristal Love Sparks, Whitney Cristine Picard and Tasha LaNae Picard plus grandchildren Bayley Jade Picard, Taylor Marie Nelson, Braylan Matthew Johnson, Presley Cristine Irby, Kensley Elizabeth Murray, Cameron Jase Harville, Kolt Remington Harville, Mattie Lea Murray and Divine Hope Picard. She was preceded in death by her father Dexter Sparks.
Marcy’s sudden passing comes as an immense shock to the many who loved her, including family and her numerous friends. She will be very greatly missed and the world is a smaller place for her passing.
