Mary Ann Ogletree

Mrs. Mary Ann Hodges Ogletree, 89, passed away June 30, 2018. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church, Shreveport. A reception will immediately follow in the church parlor. Ann was a native and life-long resident of Shreveport, a graduate of Fair Park High School and attended Centenary College. While at Centenary, she joined Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, making many lifelong friendships that she cherished. As a young woman Ann worked in a variety of jobs, finally finding her passion when she joined the staff of First Baptist Church. She worked there for 25 years, first as a secretary and then as the food service director. Ann was raised at Mangum Memorial Methodist Church prior to becoming a member of First Baptist after she met and married the love of her life, Art. They were married on June 9, 1951, when the church was located in downtown Shreveport. Anybody who encountered Ann recently was told by her how much she loved Art. Ann remained a faithful member of First Baptist for 67 years, and belonged to the Sanctuary Choir for over 50 years. Ann had numerous passions and causes that she participated in and supported through the years. She was a member of the Port of Shreve Chapter of the American Business Womens' Association for many years. One of her proudest accomplishments was heading the committee that published Shreve's Landing Cookbook. That cookbook contained many recipes of hers, along with her friends. Many a young bride received a copy, and many a young woman received a scholarship from the proceeds of the sale of the cookbook. After her oldest grandson was diagnosed with cancer at 16, she became a member of the local chapter of ESA sorority which supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Through that organization, she spent many hours selling tickets at the local St. Jude Dream Homes. Ann is survived by her husband of 67 years, Art A. Ogletree, Jr., daughters Patsy Ogletree of Shreveport and Nancy Ogletree Richardson of Baton Rouge; grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew and Heather Richardson of Oxford, MS; Amy and David Mayronne of Kingwood, TX; Lauren and Madison Turner of Knoxville, TN; Patrick and Eliza Richardson of Franklin, TN; great-grandchildren Natalie, Claire and Kyle Mayronne; Ann Hodges, James and Vaughn Richardson; Grace, Emma and soon to be William Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Jesse and Mary Hassell Hodges, and son-in-law, David L. Richardson. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to First Baptist Church, 543 Ockley Drive, Shreveport, LA 71106, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
