Rodessa, LA ~ Mary Martin, age 87 went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2014 after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Vivian Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Ralph West, former District Superintendent and longtime friend officiating and assisted by her granddaughter, Jennifer Herbert. Interment will follow in the Vivian Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday, June 17th from 6-8 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Vivian, LA. Mrs. Martin was born in Sherman, TX on May 4, 1927 to Charles and Nellie Presley Biddle. She was a resident of Rodessa, La, spent 50 year in the ministry in the Nazarene Church and a member of the Vivian Nazarene Church. She was one of the first ordained female ministers in the state of Louisiana. She started her ministry as a song evangelist at the age of 16, served as the pastor of the McCoy Nazarene Church for many years and also as an assistant pastor at the Vivian Nazarene Church. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by parents, C. B. and Nell Biddle, sister, Peggy Collins, grandson, Patrick Martin and granddaughter, Nicole Lee Martin. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack Howard Martin of Rodessa, her children, Charles Howard Martin and wife, Patti of Hughes Spring, TX, Ron Martin of Rodessa, LA, Jackie Martin, Jr. and wife, Rita of Texarkana, TX, Rosie Hines and husband, Bill of Covington, LA and Marvin Huseth and wife, Misty of Idabel, Ok. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Honoring Mrs. Martin, as pallbearers will be Marvin Huseth, Adrian Brackman, Bill Hines, Chuck Collins, William Giles and Aaron Martin. The Martin family wishes to stay "thank you" for all the floral offerings, the food, the kind messages, phone calls and especially the many prayers said for our Mother and our family this weekend. We are deeply grateful.
