Mary Kitty Brewer Smith, 76 years old, entered the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 2, 2026. After a year-long courageous battle with illness, Kitty peacefully passed at her earthly home, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
Kitty was born on May 11, 1949, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She grew up in Arcadia and began reading and memorizing scripture at an early age. In the summers, she was a camper and counselor at Bible Memory Camp in Ringgold, Louisiana. Kitty graduated from Arcadia High School in 1967 and attended Northwestern State University. She married the love of her life, JD, also from Arcadia, in 1970. After active-duty travels in the military, they eventually resided in Bossier Parish for over 45 years, where they raised three children and six grandchildren. Kitty was a member of First Bossier for over 20 years. In her successful business endeavor, Kitty served her community as the owner of Louisiana Auto Title Services for over 30 years.
Kitty liked to travel and golf with her husband and friends, sometimes allowing her husband to win. She was a great cook and happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. Kitty was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and employer. Her life was a true testament of her faith and a blessing to all who knew her.
Kitty is preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Lorraine Brewer, and her grandmother, Kittie Philyaw.
Kitty is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, JD Smith, and daughters, Lori Gore (Brad), Julie Gayle (Christopher), and Sarah Patterson (Ryan). She was a proud and loving “Nana” to her six grandchildren, Matthew Gore, Jackson Pharr, Molly Gore, Mitchell Gore, Owen Patterson, and Abram Patterson. She is survived by her five siblings, Dr. John Brewer (Lucy), Helen Raley, Dr. Bill Brewer (Carol), Mark Brewer (Sue), and Kensill Brewer (Kathy). She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David Wayne Smith (Becki), sister-in-law, Brenda Antee (Shane), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation to pay respects and offer condolences to the family will be held on Wednesday, January 7, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at First Bossier Sanctuary.
Funeral services to celebrate Kitty’s life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 8, at the First Bossier Chapel. Officiating at the service will be Dr. Bill Brewer and Dr. Brad Jurkovich. Honoring Kitty as pallbearers will be her grandsons and her son-in-law, Brad Gore.
Special thanks to Dr. Lash, Dr. Wang, and the staff at the Willis Knighton Cancer Center, as well as Angela and the WK Hospice of Louisiana, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
