Mary Katherine Sutton

Mary Katherine Sutton, age 94, of Gibsland Louisiana, died peacefully and went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, December 7, 2020. Mary Katherine was born to James and Mary Katherine Durrett on July 2,1926 in Campbellsville Kentucky. While visiting relatives in Gibsland, she met and married Fred Sutton, Jr. They were married for 52 years and she remained a lifelong resident of Gibsland. She loved everyone and ministered to many with her kind gentle spirit. Mary Katherine was an active member of First Baptist Church of Gibsland and served on many committees and taught Sunday school. She loved her church. Mary Katherine worked at Gibsland Supply Company with her husband for many years. She then worked at Gibsland Bank and Trust for 20 years where she retired as a vice president. She was an avid sports fan with her husband and family and remained a loyal fan to the St. Louis Cardinal baseball and LSU football teams. She enjoyed trips with her husband, children, and family members. Mary Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, James, and Mary Katherine Durrett, husband of 52 years, Fred F. Sutton, Jr., brother, James Durrett Jr., sisters, Virginia Rice, Georgiana Cates, and Nancy Milby, beloved daughter-in-law, Lee Stout Sutton and son-in-law, Travis Bass, Jr. She is survived by her son Fred F. Sutton lll (Freddy), daughter Candace Bass, grandchildren, Autumn Meaney and husband Jonathan, Grace Murphy and husband Stuart, Shelby Bass Hirsch and husband Lee, and Danny Bass, great grandchildren, Julia and Drew Meaney, Merry Ellen and Lawson Murphy, Parker Hirsch and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mary Katherine will be forever and fondly remembered by her extended family and friends. Praise the Lord she is rejoicing with our Heavenly father, her beloved husband, and many loved ones. She loved our Lord, her family, and life passionately. She will remain in our hearts loved and missed forever. We were blessed and loved by an amazing, loving, and devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 2 p.m. with Brother Orvell Bryant officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews, John Sutton, Tommy Sutton, Don (Boo) Sutton, Jim Thomas, Ken Thomas, and grandson Danny Bass. The family would like to thank Leslie Lakes Retirement Center for the care Mary Katherine received for the last two years, along with a special thank you to her care givers, Toni Lathon, Carolyn Allen, Carol McCarter, Miranda Harris and Shandreka Harris.
