Mary Katherine "Kathy" McCallister

Mary Katherine "Kathy" McCallister was born on August 20, 1942 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Forrest Riley McCallister and Essie Daton McCallister and passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Kathy had a deep devotion to education. She attended Centenary College of Louisiana for three years before completing her BA, MA and specialist degrees at Louisiana Tech University. She went on to pursue her Doctorate in Education at Texas A&M University. She taught English at Airline High School, college prep courses at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier Parish Community College and Texas A&M University, where she served as Director of Community. She was Dean of Academic Affairs at Bossier Parish Community College and the Director of Curriculum for the Bossier Parish School Board. After retiring from the school system, Kathy embarked on her journey as Director of the Bossier Parish Arts Council. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Kenneth Riley McCallister and Joe Michael McCallister; nieces, Tonia McAllister Lewis and Gillian McCallister Lopez; nephews, Kelvin Riley McCallister and Grady Michael McCallister and numerous other family members. Kathy was a visionary with the love of teaching and learning and she dedicated her life to progress within her community and sharing her love of learning with everyone around her. She will be dearly missed.
