She is preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Frank M. Jones, and her brother Frank N. "Buddy" Jones. She is survived by her husband Donald; daughter Alice Stautzenberger and husband, Blair, and their son Jacob; daughter, Betsy Foye and husband, Shannon. Alice and Betsy would like to thank their father, Don, for being such an excellent caregiver to Dolores over the last two years.
Dolores was born in Brownsville, Texas on November 19, 1930 but moved to Shreveport in 1935. She graduated from Centenary College in 1951 with a B.A. in Spanish. She met Donald Gednetz while working at United Gas, and they married in 1960. Over the years, Dolores gave her talents to organizations such as Career Women's Republican Club, Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Shreveport Civic Opera, the American Cancer Society, and Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet. She was also a devoted Girl Scout volunteer. For her dedication, Dolores received the highest honor an adult Girl Scout can get, the Thanks badge, in 1984. She was a troop leader for 23 years and was greatly admired by her "girls" for her leadership and for planning adventures at Camp Wawbansee and on trips all over the country. She loved traveling, politics, languages, singing, and taking and sharing pictures. She also loved folk dancing. Dolores folk danced with the Louisiana-Texas International Folk Dancers, with Girl Scouts all over Shreveport, and as an instructor to senior citizens for over 25 years. From 1991-2000, Dolores enjoyed her co-workers and customers as a salesperson at Kamper's Korner. She enjoyed making new friends of all ages and getting to know her neighbors. Through her efforts, her block was a National Night Out winner from 2008-2011.
Dolores was a faithful parishioner of St. John Berchmans for seventy-eight years. She believed "people should be motivated to be the best we can be," and she lived that philosophy through her faith, service, and commitment to her friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf, 1720 Kaliste Saloom Rd., Suite C-1, Lafayette, LA 70508 with \"Dolores Gednetz Fund\" noted.
