Mary Frances DeFriend

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mary Frances Weed DeFriend was born in Shreveport, LA on March 31, 1929, and died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 24, 2019 surrounded by her children. A loving mother and grandmother, Mary was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. A longtime resident of Shreveport, Mary worked many years in the family cafe business, Chick's Grill, in Cedar Grove as well as managing many other local restaurants. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles "Chick" and Ivy Weed; her daughter, Tracey Carol Emery; infant son, Billy DeFriend and sister, Delores Colbert. Mary is survived by four children, Rebecca Hudsmith, Clay DeFriend, Christy DeFriend, and Charlie DeFriend; three grandchildren, Blane, Blake and Chance DeFriend and his wife, AnnaClaire. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Peggy Pernici and Carilyn Wallace, and her brother, Charles Weed. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. with a funeral service celebrating her life on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street in Shreveport. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days, especially Michelle, Valerie and Dr. Bob.
