Mary Catherine “Mom, Nana, Momeo, and Aunt Cat” Callaway, age 97, surrounded by family, was peacefully called home to the Lord on March 11, 2026 after a brief illness.
Born on February 10, 1929 and raised in the town of Hosston in North Caddo Parish, she was a graduate of Hosston High School and after her marriage became a life-long resident of Shreveport.
Funeral services for Mary Catherine Callaway will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Cecil Marr.
Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward Frank “Pop” Callaway, her parents Pinkney Calvin Boydston and Lucy Hill Boydston, sister Carline Boydston Bruce, and brother James C. “Sonny” Boydston.
In her teenager years, she worked in the post office and as a switchboard operator in Hosston. Being married in 1947, Mary Catherine and Edward lived in the town of Gilliam until moving to Shreveport in late 1949. In Shreveport, they raised three sons with Mary Catherine managing the home and later working as a cashier and then as school cafeteria manager for the Caddo Parish Public Schools before retiring. She was a strong Christian and very involved, especially as a teacher at Linwood Baptist Church and later at North Shreve Baptist Church. For many years, she was the caregiver to her mother, Lucy Boydston. She traveled to visit immediate and extended family members from the East Coast to the West Coast and even a visit to Hawaii. And she had a host of friends.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses – Bruce Edward Callaway and Mary of Beavercreek, Ohio, William Lane Callaway and Cathy of Shreveport, and James Roger Callaway and Sue of Big Sandy, Texas and two grandchildren, Amanda Lane Callaway of Shreveport and Michael Dustin Callaway of Melbourne, Florida. As well there are an abundance of nieces and nephews of Mary Catherine who reside in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Due to her long years of life, Mary Catherine became the last Aunt for many in her extended family.
Mary Catherine was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary Pallbearers include long-time friends: William and Brenda Moore, Richard and Nell Corn, Jan Olnhausen, Viva May, and Dr. Scott Mighell who was Mary Catherine’s primary physician for some 40 years.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and support staff of the Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital, Shreveport Rehabilitation Hospital, Ochsner LSU Health Stroke Center, the Progressive Care Center, and Willis Knighton North Hospital who cared for Mary Catherine beginning in late December 2025 until her passing on March 11, 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Shreve Baptist Church.
