Born on February 26, 1955, Mary Eva Bagley passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on January 12, 2026, following a pulmonary illness. Mary was the daughter of Leslie Boyd “L.B.” Bagley and Mary Adelle “Dell” Fisher Bagley. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Attorney Leslie Boyette “Ted” Bagley, and Dr. John Fisher Bagley. She is survived by one aunt, Sally Bagley. She is also survived by two nephews, Ted Christian Bagley and his wife, Robin, and Ty Goldsby Bagley and his wife, Randa; two great-nieces, Teagan and Tatum Bagley, and two great-nephews, Trevin and Lathan Bagley. She is also survived by one brother, David L. Bagley and her youngest nephew, Lee, and a host of close cousins and friends.
Mary was born into a founding family of the Longstreet/Keatchie area where her family owned a Mercantile and ran businesses in lumber and cattle. Settling in the Smyrna community in her early life, where her Great-Grandfather, Levi Blasdell Bagley, was a founding member of the Smyrna Presbyterian Church, she lived her life mired in family history and developed a deep appreciation for the land that surrounded her. She enjoyed a good joke, telling stories of family accomplishments, adventures, and sometimes exploits that left her audience with their mouths agape. Beneath her rough exterior lurked the smile of a little girl who once begged her father to buy her a real monkey from Africa (pictured above). However, her older brothers quickly learned that she could be the rough side of sandpaper when she didn’t get her way…and that didn’t happen often.
Mary lived on the L.B. Bagley Road, named after her father, in the Smyrna Community between Longstreet and Grand Cane her entire life. She received her Bachelor degree and her Master’s degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice, attending Centenary College, Stephen F. Austin University, and Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. She was employed by the Department of Child Protective Services in Mansfield as a Licensed Social Worker and spent a lifetime in service to the neglected and abused children and families in need in her beloved DeSoto Parish.
Mary loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, being a cattlewoman, and spending time with her beloved dogs. She was guarded with her emotions but stood staunchly beside her family and guarded the history of her name with ferocity. If she loved you, you knew it. The family asks that any memorials be made in Mary’s name to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home at www.lbch.org
Rest easy, Tituh (“Sister”). You’re home now. God owns the cattle on a thousand hills and at least one monkey.
A family service was held at Smyrna Cemetery where Mary was laid to rest with her precious family just a breeze away from her beloved Bagley land. Pallbearers were Larry Bagley, Alan Bagley, Lamar Holmes, Donnie Fisher, Bill Bagley and Will Bagley. We give thanks for her dear friend, Janet Arnold, and Bro. Brian Rankin of the First Baptist Church in Converse who assured with Mary that her Salvation was secure in her acceptance of Jesus Christ and an eternity that will be spent in Heaven. We cannot wait to see her again.
