Mary Anne Moore

September 6, 1934 — January 26, 2024

Mary Anne Moore

Mary Anne Moore of Shreveport, passed away peacefully January 26. She had been in hospice care with the good Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows following a long illness. She was 89.

She was born September 6, 1934 to Joseph Clyde and Ruby Marie Johnson in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Johnsons and their family were from Cloutierville, in Natchitoches Parish, in Central Louisiana and later moved to Shreveport to improve their living conditions. When asked why they moved, Uncle Harold would say, "Hell boy, we was starving." It was, after all, the end of the Great Depression and times were tough in the north-central Louisiana agrarian economy.

Mary Anne attended C.E. Byrd High School and graduated in 1953.  On July 13, 1957, she married the love of her life, Charles G. Moore, shortly after his graduation from Centenary College. They were blessed with one son, Clif, who was born in 1960. Charles and Mary Anne were married for 58 years until Charles passed away in September of 2015. They were blessed with a marriage of mutual love and respect. Until death did they part, Mary Anne remained his best friend, confidant and devoted wife. She and Charlie are certainly reunited finally in His love.

Mary Anne spent almost her entire married life working with the Sisters at Holy Rosary School in Shreveport, LA. She kept the books and the nuns like to tell the story that when times were lean, Mary Anne would not pay herself when preparing the payroll. She spent many years coordinating fundraisers and charity events that benefitted Holy Rosary and the Rezni Center. She was so adept at raising money, she once sold a man a chair which only had three legs. True story!

Mary Anne lived her life joyously and could always be counted on for her laugher, light heart and gentle spirit. She was truly, one of a kind, and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of her company, for even a short time.

Mary Anne is survived by their son, Dr. Clif Moore; grandchildren, Beau and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews including Linda, Nancy, Barry, Del and Stephanie. She has surely gone to reunite with her Charlie where they are smiling down on us from Heaven together.
