Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Bossier Chapel, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Marie Kathleen "Mickey" DeVille, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020. She was born on November 8, 1925 in Norridge, England. Mickey, a World War II Veteran, was a member of the British Women's Land Army where she served as a Lumber Jill. She was later "pinned" by the Queen with a medal for her service. During the war she met her future husband, Ralph DeVille, who was serving in England in the US Army. They met at a USO dance, where she left her "date" to dance with Ralph, who became the love of her life. They married in Feltham, England on March 24, 1945 at St. Catherine's Church. Mickey and Ralph had their first son in England in July of 1946. On November 6, 1946 they left England on the Queen Elizabeth and arrived back in the US at the port in New York City. They settled in Bossier City, Louisiana, having two more children and lived there until Ralph's passing in 1993. Mickey retired from Dillard's and in 1994, Mickey moved to Georgia to live with her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she lived until her passing. She loved her time with Tina and Brent and was always thankful for the chance to share everyday life together. In Georgia, Mickey was a member of the Piedmont Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Red Hats organization. In 2013, she moved back to Bossier City and was a member of the Red Hats and active at the Bossier Senior Center. She is survived by her sons, James and wife, Betty, Charles and wife, Katharyn; her daughter, Tina and husband, Brent; 5 grandchildren; Brandi, Ashley, K'lain, Jay and Jacqueline; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, John West of Reading, England and overseas nieces and nephews. She is also survived in all the people who she made smile with a witty comment, a laugh or a wink. This spectacular woman remembered being taken to the hospital with Diphtheria when she was three in a horse drawn carriage and lived to see the world evolve to talking on FaceTime. She would say life is about people not the technologies, conveniences, or politics- just people. Because people are a constant and were her focus, she was able to keep up with the ever-changing world. She added to her family by claiming others as her own. She was the epitome of fairness and saw people for their hearts, not only their actions. She never missed the chance to "visit" especially with strangers, she loved everyone, napped unapologetically, ate too much candy and cookies- not enough vegetables and at 95 years old, only took two pills a day. She loved to dance, knit, read and play cornhole. For her 90th birthday she wanted to go dancing, so she danced at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth with her great-grandson, Trenton. She was a true angel among us, a firecracker, the light in the room and always a laugh when you needed it. The lesson she taught us is that when you enjoy life's small moments and cherish people- you change the world! She once wrote in a journal after losing Ralph, "We danced for 48 years, until I lost him. Well, for a little bit until we take off dancing again someday in the future, and what a wonderful day that will be...". They are dancing today.
