Marie was born on December 21, 1925 to Sam Pedro and Concetta Danice Tamiggi Pedro in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024 in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was a first-generation American born and was the youngest of eight children. She met and married Jack Bassett in 1953. She and her beloved husband of 37 years enjoyed camping all across America.   Marie possessed a talent for baking and delighted in creating delicious treats for her friends and family. Her family meant the world to her. She spent as much time with them as she could. There was only one thing that came before her family and that was God. Her faith held a central place in her life, providing her with solace and comfort, especially during the past 13 years of challenging health issues. May she rest in peace in His heavenly kingdom, forever remembered and cherished by all those whose lives she touched.

Marie was a resident of Bossier City and had a lengthy career in banking. Her extensive career in banking started as a teller, and she spent 38 years with First National/Chase Bank. After retiring in 1990, she began volunteering for The Bossier Council on Aging and ultimately returned to work at the Bossier Parish Central Library.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack G. Bassett; her parents; brothers, Philip Pedro, Nat Pedro, Nick Pedro and Sam Pedro, Jr. and sisters, Margaret Jorgenson, Sara Bobbin and Alice Kent. She is survived by daughters, Deborah Bassett Dillingham and husband, Scott, Paula Bassett McFarland and husband, Gayer, and Donna Bassett Bowden; granddaughters, Krysta McFarland Hallmark and husband, Chris, and Heather Bowden Farrington and husband, Michael; grandsons, Gayer McFarland III and wife, Mandy, and Patrick Bowden. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Lily, Maddy and Vivy McFarland, Harrison Hallmark and Caroline and Wyatt Farrington along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The entire Bassett family wants to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the outpouring of love shown to Mother, especially from Dr. Leslie Sewell who spent so many years caring for her and addressing her health needs. We are additionally grateful for the staff, nurses, and aides at The Blake at Bossier City, who gave so much time and love, and helped to make each of her days brighter. Finally, to all the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, our heartfelt gratitude for making Mother's final days comfortable.

The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice of Shreveport, 8950 East Kings Hwy, Shreveport 71115, or a charity of your choice.
