Marguerite E. Howerton

A graveside service for Marguerite E. Howerton will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Avenue. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Father Duane Trombetta.

Marguerite was born May 1, 1950, to LT. James R. Howerton and Marguerite Cornelia Hendrick Howerton at Shumpert Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Her father was in the United States Air Force and travelled to many different duty stations. Some of these the family was able to accompany, including Waco, Texas, Greenville, South Carolina and Croughton AFB in England. She returned to Shreveport in 1963, where she attended school, graduating from C.E. Byrd High School in 1969. She then attended Northeast Louisiana University of Monroe graduating with a BA in General Studies in 1973. After 5 years at Catherine's Apparel, Marguerite started a 33 year career with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, working with foster children and adult women recovery shelters.

After retirement she continued to work supporting St. Joseph Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Shreveport. where she was a member and was active in St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was active in Gas Light Players and their Halloween house at the Louisiana State Fair, Dr. Blood's Tour of Terror.

Marguerite was an animal lover and had many different pets, including those injured and rescued. Her friends will all remember her German Shepherds and Boston Terriers, of which she had many.

Marguerite is survived by her brother, James R. Howerton, Jr.; nephew, Chris Howerton and his family; grandniece, Avery Downs-Edmonds and grandnephews, Braden Downs and Sean Downs.

Her loving, giving and sweet spirit will never be forgotten by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Until we meet again...
