Margie King Rachal

Margie King Rachal was welcomed home to her eternal rest on Saturday, October 3, 2026. She was born on November 23, 1932, in Athens, Louisiana. She met the love of her life, Paul Matthew Rachal, and married him on June 13, 1952. There are not many people for whom marriage lasts its own lifetime, and Margie and Paul were proud to be happily married for 74 years. Margie spent her career as a court reporter at the Caddo District Court, and she and Paul both worked hard their entire lives to provide for their family. It was Margie’s family that was her pride and joy. She and Paul were blessed with two daughters, Becky and Mona, their husbands, three grandchildren, their spouses, and seven great-grandchildren. Margie loved to host their large family, and every holiday involved the entire family gathering around Margie’s dining room table. There were hours of laughter, food, and celebrations.

Margie was undeniably the best cook in the family and taught each successive generation how to make her recipes, including her gumbo, shrimp creole, crawfish fettuccine, and the (infamous) burn and serve rolls. These rolls were the inevitable result of hours of cooking, talking, and chaos, as children ran through the house and someone needed to fill the water glasses and someone else needed to get the extra chairs from the garage, and before you knew it, those rolls had burned. Don’t worry, just scrape the burned parts off; they’ll be fine.

While Margie was the best at rocking a baby or preparing coffee milk for the children, she was also a lady who knew how to have fun. Margie and Paul had a large and loyal group of friends. They spent decades loading up their campers and traveling throughout the United States. They were proud to have visited 48 states in the continental U.S. before traveling became too difficult. Margie and Paul joined a Cajun dancing group in their 60s and traveled around Louisiana dancing with their friends. This led to the formation of the family krewe, fondly named the Krewe of Pandeauxmonium, which hosted family and friends during Shreveport’s Mardi Gras parades. Margie and Paul met every Wednesday with their group of friends for dinner at their favorite restaurants, and Friday nights were reserved for dinner and hours of cards. Margie supplemented these activities with volunteer work at Christ United Methodist Church, her circle group, and a book club. The ultimate hostess, Margie hosted a legendary Christmas party whose guest list often pushed the boundaries of what her home could comfortably hold. If you stopped by Margie’s house, rest assured you would be invited to have a snack and a cold drink.

There are so many fun, adventurous, hilarious stories that we could tell about Margie (including the tale of an exuberant guinea pig colony that took up residence in her backyard that she babied for years), but there simply isn’t room to tell them all. Margie was the vibrant, loving heart of our family, and we will miss her so dearly. We are thankful for her long, beautiful life and know that she is waiting for us on the other side.

Margie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Aler Mae King and R.T. King, her brother, Cecil King, and her beloved youngest daughter, Mona Williams. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Paul Rachal, her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Kirk Davis, her son-in-law, Marty Williams, her grandson, Todd Davis and his wife, Misty, her granddaughter, Tricia Frierson and her husband Archer, and her granddaughter, Megan Poljak and her husband, Davor. She is survived by her great-grandchildren, Ella Davis, John Kirklin Davis, Ivy Frierson, Claire Frierson, Davis Frierson, David Poljak, and Danny Poljak. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many loving lifelong friends.

Margie’s services of life will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Rev. Willis Dear.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Todd Davis, Archer Frierson, Davor Poljak, John Kirklin Davis, Davis Frierson, David Poljak, and Danny Poljak.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Margie’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
