Margie Maxine Bogan Smith

In the evening of Sunday, November 13, 2022, Margie Maxine Bogan Smith greeted her Lord and Savior with a warm embrace!  After serving Him for longer than most of us have been alive, we are sure she is enjoying her eternal reward.  God launched her life of influence on a hot summer day, July 29, 1923, in Harmon, Louisiana.  Due to a Mobil Oil Company transfer, her parents, Bessie and “Red” Bogan, moved Maxine and her older brother, Charles, to McCloud, Texas, her senior year of high school.  There she met her hero for life, Luther Ben Smith!  They enjoyed 63 years together and were a blessing to many all along the way.

Maxine found the Lord early on and was an active Methodist for all her life.  She had a servant’s heart and the gift of “extravagant generosity”! Never at a loss for words, Maxine rarely met a stranger and few wondered how she felt about her God, her family or her friends.  She was a worker and had a “let’s do it” kind of attitude.  She shared her talents and gifts in so many ways (and her opinion in some cases!) that she leaves a hole that will be a challenge for us to fill.

Back in the day, as a homemaker, she was “Mom” to her children, Michael Glen and Beverly Annette (Fortuna) but was a positive influence to every other kid in the neighborhood, too.  She was well known for her church work, sewing, cooking, encouragement, servanthood and caring spirit.  She loved all people and with her outgoing personality and positive attitude, made that love known in her actions and words.  She will be missed by many, not the least of which are her 3 grandchildren, Michael Shane Smith (Michelle), Misty Fortuna Davis (Todd) and Wendy Fortuna Gallineau (Danny), and 9 great-grandchildren, Leighton, Brennon, Cameron, Ella, Addison, Bryce, Livi, Bailey and John Kirklin, who all knew her as “Nanny”. They will not easily forget her and neither will those of us who were gifted with her long life of loving!

We will celebrate her life on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Vivian United Methodist Church in Vivian, Louisiana.  Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church starting at 10:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Vivian Cemetery in Vivian, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend Dave Fortuna and Reverend Bob Shield.

The family suggest memorials may be made to Vivian United Methodist Church, 223 W Louisiana Ave, Vivian, Louisiana or Noel United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon St., Shreveport, Louisiana. To order flowers, the family suggests calling New Beginnings Florist and Gifts, 318.375.3032.
