HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Margery Mitchell Compton, age 92, at First Baptist Church at 406 West Main in Homer, LA, on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with officiant, Bro. Wayne Craig. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family received friends at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer at 405 East 5^th Street on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Compton was born December 9, 1928, in Homer, LA, to M.A. and Ada Hicks Mitchell. She entered into rest on Monday, July 12, 2021, at her daughter's home in Benton, LA. Mrs. Compton loved the Lord and lived her life for Him. She loved her family, church and church family. Mrs. Compton was an awesome cook and learned from her mother. It was a treat from everyone to sit at her table where everyone was always welcome. Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, James Dwain Brown; second husband, Ruben Compton, Sr.; great-grandson, Hayden Craig; sister, Bessie Michael; brother, Ralph R. Mitchell; step-daughter, Aletha Walker; and two step-sons, Rodney Compton and James Compton. She is survived by her three sons, James D. Brown, Jr. and wife Melba of Springhill, LA, Adrian M. Compton and wife M.J. of Lake Charles, LA, and Bruce Compton and wife Trudy of Shongaloo, LA; daughter Doreen Brown Craig and husband Wayne of Benton, LA; two step-sons, Ruben Compton, Jr. and wife Becky and Ronnie Compton and wife Marilyn; twenty-one grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joel, Derek, Brent, Robin, Morgan, Daniel, Jackson, Deanne, Jessica, Manda, Stephanie, Brier, Kathy, Chris, R.J., Andrea, Ryan, Casey, Lucas, Levi, and Jason; numerous great-grandchildren; and along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church of Homer, LA. Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Compton's grandchildren. In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Compton, her family suggests memorials be made to "Love My Church" fund of First Baptist Church or Main Street Homer, 419 West Main Street, Homer, LA 71040.
