Margaret Jane Hurst

A graveside service for Margaret Jane Hurst will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2020 at Forest Park East Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, Louisiana from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Brother Gene Nix will officiate the service. Margaret Jane was born to Claude Vernon and Idelle Sparks Hurst in Tacoma, WA on December 31, 1943. Margaret left to be reunited with her Savior on December 8, 2020 at the age of 76. Margaret was a member of Linwood Baptist Church for over 30 years. She served as a Family Minister working with Ed Gonzalez for many years. Margaret's life was dedicated to the gospel and she brought hundreds of lives to the Lord by receiving their free gift of Salvation. Her best friend Shirley Peddy of Shreveport, LA worked alongside Margaret at Lucent/AT&T for over 30 years. Once retired, they enjoyed traveling to see relatives, served their community and most importantly, enjoyed eating out and always laughing. Her family knew her as Aunt Janie, and everyone in her life knew they were loved, she never failed to tell them. Words to describe her are: faithful, strong, humble, giving and always smiling. Mealtime prayers will never be the same without her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Idelle Hurst; her brother, Jack Richard Hurst; her younger sister, Sally Ann Hurst Dow and brother-in-law, David M. Dow. Surviving Margaret is one sister-in-law, Carol Hurst of Shreveport, LA; nieces, Michelle Dow Rearden and husband, Lance of Bossier City, LA and Sherry Hargrave of Abbeville, LA; nephew, James Richard Hurst of Shreveport, LA; great-nieces, Lauren M. LeBleu and husband, Evan of Portland, OR, Mallory Ann Welch of Shreveport, LA, Madison Anna Welch of Bossier City, LA and Summer Hargrave of Abbeville, LA; great-nephews, Dylan Hurst of Shreveport, LA, Matthew Hurst of Minden, LA and Wyatt LeBleu of Portland, OR (her great-great nephew). Pallbearers for Margaret J. Hurst will be James Hurst, Kenneth Welch, Kevin Flowers and Chris Smith. Honorary Pallbearer is H. Arthur Dew of Natchitoches, LA. A huge thank you to the staff at Colonial Oaks along with her special nurses from Amedysis Hospice for their wonderful care of our Aunt Janie. We kindly ask that no cut flowers be sent in her memory; although living plants are welcomed if you should so choose. Alternatively, the family would prefer donations be made to Shreve City Baptist Church in her memory.
