Margaret H Blunt

MANSFIELD, LA - Memorial services for Margaret Herrin Blunt, 70, will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, In Mansfield. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, February 28, 2019. Services will begin at 2:00 pm, on the same day. Thumper Miller will be officiating. After a short procession, the graveside service will commence at the Friendship Cemetery, on Mounce Road, in Grand Cane. Margaret was born August 8, 1948, in Natchitoches, LA. She was the second of five children born to James, Jr. and Moyna Herrin. She was a 1966 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School. Margaret passed away, peacefully, surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness on February 23, 2019. In better days, Margaret enjoyed traveling, caring for her family and working alongside her husband, of 33 years, on their farm, in Grand Cane. Whether she was doing chores or playing a game, she would often say, "We are making memories." Together with her sisters and parents, she took many cruises all over the world including Hawaii, Europe and the Caribbean. They also traveled the states in their motorhome, seeing the sights and enjoying being together. At home, she loved to cook and host large family gatherings. When she was able, fishing, especially "perch-jerkin," and tending the garden were her favorite pastimes. She loved shelling peas and would ask us to bring her bags of them to shell even after she was unable to pick them herself. In her last days, the life and memories she squeezed into those precious few years were the times she reminisced about the most. She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life, Johnny and her long-time friend and caregiver, Al. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Phillip Lawrence (Melinda) and Chris Lawrence (Missy) of Grand Cane; her grandchildren: Aaron Lawrence (Chelsey), of Frierson, Blake Lawrence and Caroline Lawrence, of Grand Cane; her siblings: Jamie Waites (Alan), Linda Goodgion (Steve), James Herrin, III (Robin), and John Herrin, who all reside in Shreveport; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Honoring Margaret as pallbearers will be her sons, Phillip and Chris Lawrence, her grandsons Aaron and Blake Lawrence, and her brothers John and Jimmy Herrin. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care and patience shown by the doctors, nurses and staff of the Bradford Rehabilitation Center, St. Joseph's Hospice, Dr. Ross Nelson of Pain Care Management and Dr. Phillip Utter of The Spine Institute. Special thanks to Uncle Jimmy whose presence and unconditional love was the greatest help of all. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to any charity of your choosing. If you don't have a preference, please consider the Desoto Regional Health System Foundation (DRHS Foundation), 207 Jefferson Street, Mansfield, LA 71052.
