Lynn Riddle Gautier

Lynn Riddle Gautier of Shreveport, 83, passed away on October 18, 2018, in the company of family. Mass of the resurrection will be said Saturday, October 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Mrs. Gautier was born on January 11, 1935, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Ellen and Kenneth Riddle. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and graduated the Memphis Academy of Art with a degree in fine art. On June 15, 1957, she married Dr. Samuel Peter Gautier of Memphis, Tennessee. When he accepted a commission as a dentist in the United States Army, she was thrilled to begin their married life in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, then Heidelberg, Germany from 1958 to 1961. During that time, she and Sam, often with babies in tow, traveled Europe and saw the great art and architecture that was the inspiration for her life's greatest passion. In 1961 the family settled in Shreveport, Louisiana. While raising four children, Lynn worked in her art studio daily, and was active in the Shreveport art community. She taught art to children at Barnwell Art Center and at St. John's Catholic school. Her work was featured In New Orleans in several Louisiana Major Works juried shows, and she showed her work often with a group of artists known as The Great Gator Group in the 70's and 80's. She and Sam traveled extensively, which furthered her love of art and culture. She loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren, and often shared her creativity with them. She is predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Kenneth Riddle of Memphis, Tennessee; her daughter, Adrienne Gautier Dyson and her husband of 60 years, Sam Gautier. She is survived by her sister Rosie Sorrells of Kansas City; sons, Pete Gautier of Shreveport and Ken Gautier MD (Robin Bruckner) of Senatobia, Mississippi; and daughter Ellen Darter (Dave) of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; grandchildren, Allie and Briana Dyson of Coppell, Texas; Christina Gautier of Portland, Oregon; Paige, Jill and Claire Gautier of Senatobia, Mississippi; and Katie Darter Bennett (Josh) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jim Darter (Rachel McNabb) of Nashville, Tennessee. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy McDowell, Forrest McDowell, and Buddy Rogers, John Guth, Litt Martin, Douglas Caulkins, John Welter, and Bill Huettel. The family suggests that memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or to the charity of the donor\'s choice.
