Louie Max Green

Louie Max Greene was born October 11, 1926. Mr. Greene was 98 years old and missed becoming 99 by only 6 days. Mr. Greene went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Mr. Greene is survived by his son, Ed Greene and Vickie Houser of Bandera, Tx. Grandsons Brad Greene and Jared Greene and his wife, Molly Greene, and his 2 great grand grandchildren, Savannah Greene and Noah Greene. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He loved his family and was very proud of each of them.

Mr. Greene’s parents were George Hortman Greene, Sr. and Lillie Belle Booth Greene. Mr. Greene had 2 brothers, James Booth Greene and George Hortman Greene, Jr. Mr. Greene was the last living member of his immediate family.

Mr. Greene was raised on his family’s farm on Greene Road outside of Minden, LA. They raised cotton, corn, and all the vegetables that provided food for them and their farm animals.

In other words, they raised what they ate and sold the cotton for income.

Mr. Greene was 3 years old when the Great Depression began and was 13 when it ended. He often recounted how tough those times were, and it made a lasting impression on his life.

When Mr. Greene and his brothers weren’t working on the farm, they played baseball with their cousins who lived down the road. They actually fielded a team that had nothing but boys with the last name Greene on the team.

Later, in order to help Mr. Greene with getting an improved education, he went to live with his Uncle John and Myra Duco in Hanna, LA. Uncle John had a store and large cotton fields, and he would help out in the store. Uncle John and Aunt Myra had 2 sons, Johnny and Gene Duco. They became like brothers and were very close. He would stay with them during the school year and would return home during the summer to help on the family farm.

Mr. Greene was drafted when he was 18 years old into the US Army. He went to basic training at Camp Wolters in Mineral Wells, TX. He received orders to go to Japan for service but was given a pass to go home to see his family before being deployed. While he was home, the US dropped the atomic bombs on Japan and the war ended. He remained in the army and helped by processing return and discharge paperwork of personnel returning from war.

Mr. Greene was discharged in August 1946.

He worked for a short period of time for International Harvester as customer service representative. Later, he drove a trolley in Shreveport, LA where he met the love of his life, Mary Evelyn McDonald Greene. They were married in May 1955. They were married until his loving wife passed away in May 2003. Their only child Ed was born in June 1956 and friends used to joke that they married in May and had a Child in June. That info was correct; however, it was a year later.

Mr. Greene went to work for the US Postal Service and worked there until he retired. He loved his job at the post office. He would often talk about how much he enjoyed visiting with the people that he delivered mail to and really getting to know them and their family. Times were muck different then. In those days, they actually put the mail in the box by their front door.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and support staff of Peterson Health and Hospital in Kerrville, TX for the excellent care they provided the last 10 plus years. The family would also like to thank Peterson Hospice for the loving care they provided Dad for the last few days of his life. Everyone was so loving, kind, and helpful, they made difficult time much easier.
