On Friday February 21, 2020, Lola Jeanne Pendleton Christian passed away peacefully in her sleep - just three days before her 90th birthday. A private graveside service will be held for family and close friends in Mansfield Cemetery. A reception to honor Jeanne's life will be held at Christ Memorial Parish Hall at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
Jeanne was born on February 24, 1930. Preceding her in death were her parents, Hyatt Fleet Pendleton and Lorena Mae Warren Pendleton; and her brother, Warren F. Pendleton. Jeanne's husband, Retired Lt. Col. Charles "Chris" V. Christian, their daughter, Monika Christian, and Jeanne's beloved dogs, Sashi and Benjie preceded her in death. Her best friend and shopping buddy, first cousin William Nicholas Warren also passed away before Jeanne. William, however, left a daughter, Mimi Warren Hyatt, and a grand-daughter, Sidney Christian Hyatt of Little Rock, Arkansas. Mimi and Sidney were like Jeanne's own. Her happiest times were visits with Sidney.
Also surviving Jeanne are her two nieces, Kathy Mapes (husband Mel), and Susan Hanks; of Clovis, New Mexico. Jeanne enjoyed phone calls and visits with them immensely. Prior to Chris's military retirement, they served our country with tours of duty in such places as Japan, France, Germany, Turkey and Panama after which Chris, Jeanne and Monika returned to make Mansfield their home.
Throughout her lifetime, Jeanne held a number of jobs; First National Bank, Mansfield Publishing, DeSoto Parish School Board, Christ Memorial Episcopal Church and also as the Executive Secretary to the International Paper Mill Manager until her retirement in 1995. She was also active in many social and civic activities and clubs. Jeanne was proud to be a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was honored by Xi Delta Eta as First Lady of the Year in 2002.
Although few in number, Jeanne's family filled her life with joy. In truth, Jeanne broadened her extended family to include a vast number of friends and those she knew and loved. She enjoyed family, friends, and life to the fullest!
When health issues resulted in her entering Mansfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, she remained active in visiting with patients and remembering fun times from her past. When she first arrived at Mansfield Nursing Center, although totally comfortable with her surroundings, she got up every morning and "packed her bags" as though that day was the day she was going home. During the day, the bags were lovingly unpacked and her things put away, only prompting her to pack them again the next morning.
Jeanne was packing her bags, and waiting to go home - where so many of her family and friends had gone before. When she entered the golden gates, she was reunited with a host of family and friends.
Jeanne's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mansfield Nursing Center, its employees, Superior Hospice, and her doctor, Douglas Sawyer. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, 401 Washington Avenue, Mansfield, LA 71052 or the charity of your choice.
