Leslie Jack Allwhite

Leslie Jack Allwhite, age 81, of Greenwood, Louisiana, passed away May 14, 2024, at his home.

Jack was born April 22, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Virgil Lewis Allwhite and Mary Lorraine Tew. Jack was the only son in a house full of sisters.

Jack loved the water and swimming. In his youth he often worked as a lifeguard. It was at this summer job in 1961 that Jack met his loving spouse, Joyce King Allwhite, at Jodann’s Swimming Pool in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jack and Joyce married on October 24, 1962. They completed their family by adopting two children, Samantha Allwhite and Michael Allwhite.

Jack had a successful career as a skilled carpenter. After working for nine years, he eventually went into business for himself. Jack ran a successful remodeling/repair business for most of his career. Jack often employed family members, enjoying many years working alongside his beloved nephew and brother-in-law, Pat Reynolds and Wayne King.

Jack loved rodeo and spent much of his younger years as a bull rider. He shared his love for rodeo and horses with Joyce. Jack and Joyce raised many animals on their property in Keithville including horses, lambs, goats, chickens, rabbits, and dogs. Their family participated together in horse shows, trail rides, and competitive team penning.

Jack loved music as well. He was a talented singer and guitar player. Jack played by ear and could pick up any song easily. He and Joyce spent much time with family and friends playing music together.

Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Joyce Allwhite; and their daughter, Samantha Allwhite; along with their son and his wife, Michael and Julie Allwhite. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bailey and Andrew Swan and Chaney Allwhite. His first great-grandchild, Lola Swan is due in July 2024. He is also survived by siblings Debra Farmer, Vickie Wooley, and Terry Shaw. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, VL Allwhite and Mary Tew; and his sisters, Cindy Tew and Shirley Trussell.
